Sensor Element Design Details

Fork Tinestress

Systron Donner Automotive’s breakthrough sensors utilize the power of a genuine piezoelectric quartz sensor element, whose design and material properties simply outpace all competitors. Crafted using state-of-the-art MEMS manufacturing technology on-site at Systron Donner Automotive’s Concord, California facility, the unique dual-hammerhead design of the sensing element contributes to its incredibly sensitive and accurate performance at all temperature ranges and g-loads. And since quartz won’t fatigue over time, measurements will remain as precise 30 years from now as they were on day one.

The quartz from which the sensor element is manufactured (specifically, cultured piezoelectric quartz, grown from a single crystal for precisely this purpose) exhibits outstanding stability. Its high-Q value shields it from thermal-mismatch sensitivity between itself and its mount. The single-point mounting all but eliminates thermal stress issues. Even package resonance effects, which typically shift with temperature or age, are all tightly controlled. When combined with the full SPI digital output of the MicroGyro® and backed by CBIT™ self-testing for full-time assurance, it all adds up to a rate sensor that’s ready to save lives, with no hardware or software-based compensation schemes required.
