Inertal Measurement Unit Details

Imu

The Systron Donner Automotive Inertial Measurement Unit, or IMU, is a custom-packaged module which contains up to three MicroGyro® units, and up to three accelerometers, all in one rugged component. It can take the place (and thus save costs and complexity) of multiple and redundant sensors currently used to inform a wide variety of automotive systems. And the output is delivered to a CAN bus.

For chassis systems, the IMU can handle ESC, active suspension, and lane keeping. For airbag systems, the same IMU can help control airbag deployment, side-impact systems, and rollover airbag systems. Count on the IMU for automated systems such as navigation, intelligent cruise control, headlamp control, and event monitoring. You can even use the IMU for advanced applications such as steer-by-wire, collision avoidance, and four-wheel steering. Simply put, it can make a lot of other sensors obsolete.
